Two Types of Data Aging
Linear aging
- Much simpler and much faster
- Should only age by days if Julian dates are used anywhere
- If aging by years, try to use a multiple of 4 years
Semantic aging
- Takes into account business rules to observe holidays; allows aging by weeks, months or other accounting periods
- Opinion: If used, should only be used to set up the base test cases
- Improper use may require manual comparison of output and/or setup of many more fields than necessary for the aging process
